Improvement of the landscape along Beishanwan Road and Nanbin Road is currently in full swing with construction workers racing against time amid the scorching weather.

The two projects are part of the 12 landscape improvement projects rolled out by Haojiang District in order to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Shantou Special Economic Zone and welcome the 3rd Asian Youth Games to be held in November 2021.

The 12 projects include landscape improvement projects for seven roads, two Asian Youth Games venues and the entrances and exits of three expressways. The total investment is estimated to reach 810 million yuan.

The improvement of landscape along Beishanwan Road and Nanbin Road began in May. Items to be improved in the Queshi Bridge-Shilin Bridge section of Beishanwan Road include the expansion of sidewalks, improvement of sidewalk road surfaces and the addition of greenery. The old and broken bricks that the sidewalks were paved with have all been replaced by granite slabs. Next, asphalt will be added to the surface to make the roads more solid.

According to Xie Zhibo, an official of the district’s urban management and law enforcement bureau, improvement of landscape along the two roads is estimated to be completed by the end of August, while the other 10 projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2021.

The landscape improvement projects will tap local terrain and make existing farmlands and rivers along or around the project sites part of the upgraded landscape.

In addition, local architectural features and the possibility of reconstruction will be taken into consideration when demolition and renovation have to be carried.
