Construction for the 3rd Asian Youth Games is going smoothly, especially the renovation of the swimming and diving center. Part of the project, the comprehensive training hall has already been topped out. Additionally, both the table tennis and water polo halls will be topped out this month.
The construction team has finished dismantling and clearing the metal roof and part of the main structure of the original diving hall and swimming hall. It is currently installing the indoor mechanical and electrical parts as well as the curtain wall.
The comprehensive training hall was topped out early last month. Other newly built main structures are expected to be topped out this month. The steel structure hoisting will be installed in August, and in October the construction team will focus on building the outdoor sports venues and the indoor secondary structure.
The original swimming and diving center was a landmark building of Shantou City. Its renovation project is being undertaken by the southern branch of China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp. Ltd. It is part of the venues for the 3rd Asian Youth Games but will also become the new campus for the city’s sports school.
The project occupies an area of 285,000 square meters with a construction area of 110,000 square meters. It consists of sports halls, a campus area and outdoor venues.
