Renovation of main roads, secondary roads and sidewalks in Shantou's central urban area are in full swing. An important part of the city's efforts to prepare for the 2021 Asian Youth Games, the improved roads will greatly improve the city's urban environment and thus further improve its image as a city altogether.
One of the key projects underway is the renovation of Haibin Road, a major traffic corridor as well as an important urban feature of the city.
Upgrading of sidewalks and green spaces along three demonstration sections of the road began at the end of last year. With landscape lighting, a slow traffic system and a lane for jogging added and lamp posts, traffic sign posts and road signs upgraded, taking a stroll here has become a true pleasure.
The three demonstration sections are the Yingbin Hotel section, the Shipaotai Park-municipal People's congress section and the Science Museum section, respectively.
Renovation of a 2.68-kilometer walking trail along the road is also being carried out with some sections already completed and opened to the public.
Another project worth highlighting is the renovation of Huanghe Road and Taishan Road. Construction workers are racing against time to ensure that the project can be completed by June 2021, which is ahead of the original schedule.
Once complete, the two roads will effectively ease congestion in the central urban area by cutting travel time from the city center to major expressways down to 15 minutes.
Other road renovation projects across the central urban area are also progressing smoothly.
