The 1st Asian Youth Games was held in Singapore from June 29 to July 7, 2009 in over 90 sporting events. Over 1,200 athletes aged 14 to 17 from 43 countries and regions attended the games.
China topped the gold medal table and medals table in total with 25 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 11 bronze medals.

There were 90 sporting events under different categories including aquatics, athletics, basketball (basketball 3X3), bowling, football, sailing, table tennis, volleyball (beach volleyball) and shooting.
